I Want to Leave Medium, But I Can’t
And It’s All Your Fault!
I’m talking to you, the new writer on Medium. You’re making me spend more and more time on Medium, time I could otherwise count on for doing my laundry or washing the dishes or watching cat videos on YouTube. You know, the really important things in life, not pondering the wonders of the universe, or improving my own writing.
While you didn’t burst onto the scene already a legend¹, I did discover you during my favorite morning ritual: Drinking my first cup of tea or coffee of the day whilst reading Medium on my iPad.
I don’t recall what your story was about; ² what I do remember is saying to myself, “Oh, wonderful. Here’s yet another writer I have to follow. Lucky me.”
I don’t recall how many folks I follow on Medium. All I know is that the list grows longer about every other day. I know that all professional authors say that to be a great writer, you have to be a great reader. But it’s getting to the point where there are so many great writers like yourself here on Medium that reading you leaves me no time to write!
I guess I’ll just have to start getting up earlier in the morning.
¹ — Apologies to Joan Baez.
² — Someone once said the only reason to use semicolons is to show you’ve been to college or university.
